2025 MLB Season Preview: The Constant Rebuild Continues For The Miami Marlins
The Miami Marlins do not retool or recalibrate — it is a constant rebuild for the team.
Peter Bendix took over as President of baseball operations in 2023 and has made plenty of moves in order to build up what used to be a bleak farm system. This includes trading the likes of Jesus Luzardo and Jake Burger. The one player that has not been moved is Sandy Alcantara.
The former Cy Young award winner has recovered from Tommy John surgery and is slated to start Opening Day for Miami. Outside of Alcantara, the injuries spill over from last season. Braxton Garrett is out getting surgery while Eury Perez is the third pitcher recovering from Tommy John and should be back around the middle of the season.
The lineup begins with Xavier Edwards. The Marlins look like they will give the young shortstop a chance to be the starter and show what he can do. The line is a who’s who with Jesus Sanchez in the middle as the main power bat, despite hitting just 21 home runs last season.
The NL East is among the best divisions in baseball and the Marlins will likely finish in the basement once again.

Record Prediction
The Marlins will not benefit much from playing in the NL East this season. Miami will have 13 games against the New York Mets, Atlanta Braves, and Philadelphia Phillies this season. That’s 39 games against three of the best teams in baseball. When looking at the lineup and rotation, it seems hard to believe that the Marlins will be able to compete over the course of 162 games.
Final Record: 62-100
