2025 MLB Season Preview: Colorado Rockies Hope Dog Days Are Done

The Colorado Rockies have been a 100-loss team in each of the last two years. Colorado is hoping that the tides have turned this offseason. The Rockies will not be a contender in the National League just yet but let’s start with getting losses into double digits.

The Rockies had the highest ERA in the league last season at 5.54. This might not seem like a surprise given the ballpark that they play in but it was the injury bug last season. Colorado used 12 different starters in 2024. This includes Ryan Felter, who pitched like an ace over the second half of the season. German Marquez and Kyle Freeland actually give the Rockies an interesting trio at the top of the rotation. Do not be making any Cy Young bets just yet but Colorado should be able to improve upon the team ERA from last season.

In the field, Ezequiel Tovar emerged as a Gold Glover last season. He agreed to a seven-year extension to remain in Colorado and be a cornerstone piece for the franchise. He led the NL in doubles with 45 last season and also slugged 26 home runs. Along with being an ace in the field, Tovar is an impressive player.

The emergence of Ryan McMahon gives Colorado a rock-solid left side. He is another Gold Glove caliber player that can hit for power. Brenton Doyle is another franchise cornerstone and has already logged two Gold Gloves. Colorado is one of the best defensive teams in the league and has plenty of young talent.

Record Prediction

Let’s give the Rockies the benefit of the doubt and say that they do not reach 100 losses this season. Despite the abundance of young and defensive talent, the team is not complete and not ready to compete at any level. This does not mean that it is impossible in the future but it will not be happening soon.

Final Record: 64-98
