2025 Miami Football: Season Preview, Schedule & Predictions
2024 SEASON-IN-REVIEW
Record: 10-3, Loss vs. Iowa State in Pop-Tarts Bowl
Miami came into the season with high expectations with Cam Ward at quarterback. The offense was as dynamic as any in the nation but the other side of the ball was a let down. During a 9-0 start, the Hurricanes were able to outscore teams and make headlines involving the CFB Playoff. Miami lost two of its final three games and this ended all chances. Miami ended the season with a classic loss to Iowa State during bowl season.
OFFENSE: The Carson Beck Era Has Arrived
There was no better offense in college football last season. Miami was No. 1 in the nation in offense and that will be the expectation once again.
How do you replace Cam Ward, who went No. 1 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft? You hit the portal for another high-level quarterback prospect.
The Hurricanes landed Georgia transfer Carson Beck this offseason. neck suffered an injury in the SEC Championship Game which kept him out of the playoffs. It was not an ideal end for Beck with the Bulldogs, mixed with injuries and inconsistent play. At Miami, Beck will work with a new group of pass catchers after the tp six went onto the NFL.
Miami had to hit the portal for wide receivers to work with the new quarterback. LSU’s CJ Martin was a big-time add in the slot while Keelan Matio (BYU) and Tony Johnson (Cincinnati) will also bring depth on the outside.
One area Beck will appreciate is the offense line. Mario Cristobal continues to reload the line led by Francis Mauigoa, who is an NFL-caliber right tackle. James Brockermyer comes in from TCU to take over at center while Anez Cooper is an All-Conference guard.
DEFENSE: Reloaded, but Will it be Better?
While the offense was among the best in the nation, Miami’s defense did not match that level. It was important this offseason to add depth at all three levels.
We begin up front with a line that was a bit banged up last season. Rueben Bain is an NFL edge rusher who will return to full strength. In his first season, Bain put up 7.5 sacks and 12.5 tackles for loss. Ahkeem Mesidor led Miami with 5.5 sacks and nine tackles for loss last season while Ahmad Moten is the big body needed along the interior.
The Hurricanes lost their leading tackler to the NFL but Wesley Bissainthe was second on the team and will be the new leader in the middle. Raul Aguirre and Jaylin Alderman make up the depth in the middle.
The secondary also added talent with Wisconsin transfer Xavier Lucas to join Zechariah Poyser, who finished with 75 tackles and three interceptions last season.
