2025 Florida State Football: Season Preview, Schedule And Predictions
2024 SEASON-IN-REVIEW
Record: 2-10
A season-opening loss to Georgia Tech as a Top 10 team seemed like a surprise but as the season went on, the surprise was that the Seminoles only lost that game by three points. Florida State defeated Cal in Week 4 for its first win before losing six in a row. DJ Uiagalelei was a complete disaster and the rest of the team followed suit. Mike Norvell survived a 2-10 season somehow but that cannot happen again.
OFFENSE: Unit is Completely Rebuilt
It was clear early on that the Seminoles were not going to turn things around in 2024.
That led to the coaching staff hitting the transfer portal this offseason. It began with the offensive line.
Gunner Hansen came in from Vanderbilt to take over a tackle position with Ole Miss transfer Micah Pettis on the other side. Richie Leonard IV is looking to return to form after missing time last season with an injury.
The line will work to protect Boston College transfer Tommy Castellanos. The dual threat quarterback will look to add a new dynamic that was missing last season. In 2023, he rushed for 1,100 yards and 13 touchdowns. Florida State has the quarterbacks of the future on the roster with Kevin Sperry but Castellanos will run the show this year.
Just like the offensive line, the receiving corps has been rebuilt. Duce Robinson, who came over from USC, is a future NFL receiver who will act as a top option for Florida State. Squirrel White is another big-time name that made his way to the Seminoles.
DEFENSE: Will Have to Make Up for Some
The defense was fine last season but did not blow anyone away. The front seven will need toreturn to form.
It begins with the defensive line. The transfer portal will make up the edges with Deamontae Diggs and Deante McCray coming in. JUCO transfer James Williams will also be in the mix. Darrell Jackson is a big body in the middle to make it all come together.
The secondary is a big question mark but there are positive signs early in camp. Shyheim Brown and KJ Kirkland are a strength at safety while the corners remain a question. Houston transfer Jeremiah Wilson will be relied upon to be a true shutdown corner.
In the middle, it is sixth-year option Stefon Thompson who needs to be the leader with Elijah Herring.
