2025 Coastal Carolina Football: Season Preview, Schedule And Predictions
2024 SEASON-IN-REVIEW
Record: 6-7, Loss vs. Utah State in Myrtle Beach Bowl (44-15)
Coastal Carolina fell after a 3-0 start with wins over Jacksonville State and Temple. At 4-1 after splitting the next two games, the Chanticleers would go onto lose five of the next six games.
OFFENSE: Points Can Come Once Again
Grayson McCall left last season but the Chanticleers continued to put points on the scoreboard. If it happens again, the team can return to the glory days.
Coastal lost multiple options under center and is left with MJ Morris to run the show. The former Terp can step into a productive system and keep it going — especially with a rebuilt group of wide receivers.
The Chanticleers return their top receiver Jameson Tucker, who averaged 17 yards per reception. Along with Tucker, the transfer portal brought in Malcolm Gillie and Colton Hiinton, who excels in the slot. Coastal has options at all three levels for Morris to work with.
The pass game will be important this season as the backfield lost its leading rushers. Jalen John comes in from UMass after 583 yards last season. The combination of John and Ja’Vin Simpkins gives Coastal two different backs to throw at the defense.
The offensive line returns All-Conference caliber tackle Nick Del Grande and guard Heston Edwards. This was. unit that struggled in the run game but was elite in pass protection.
DEFENSE: Turnovers Will be the Key
Coastal was able to take the ball away last season and it led to touchdowns. That will be the focus once again.
Miami transfer corners Robby Washington and Myles Mooyoung will make up for losses on the outside right away. These were two of many important gets in the transfer portal.
Up front, Noah Arinze comes in from New Mexico to join Sawyer Goram-Welch on the interior as 300+-pound linemen. While the front can stuff the run, it is the linebackers that have a chance to steal the show.
Shane Bruce returns after leading the team with 75 tackles last season. Wyatt Gedeon has struggled with injuries but at full strength, is part of a dynamic duo in the middle of the defense.
