2025 Arizona State Football: Season Preview, Schedule & Predictions
2024 SEASON-IN-REVIEW
Record: 11-3, Loss vs. Texas in College Football Playoff Quarterfinal (39-31)
It was a breakout season for Arizona State last season. The Sun Devils suffered two losses during the regular season but put together six straight wins to end the season. This includes a Big 12 Championship and appearance in the College Football Playoff.
OFFENSE: Sam Leavitt Will Have to Pick Up Slack
Cam Skattebo is gone. He was the heartbeat of the offense last season, finishing with over 1,700 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns.
Now, it is time for Sam Leavitt and the passing attack to take an even bigger step forward. Last season, he finished with nearly 3,000 passing yards and 24 touchdowns to just six interceptions. He will have one of the conference’s best receivers to work with in Jordyn Tyson.
Tyson missed the postseason but totaled 75 catches for 1,101 yards and 10 touchdowns. Malik McClain will also be a factor on the opposite side. Arizona State hit the portal hard, like many other teams, and this includes adding Clemson transfer Noble Johnson and Fresno State’s Jalen Moss.
The offensive line was rock solid in the middle of the conference. If it can take the next step, it would be a major boost. Ben Coleman returns as an All-Big 12 lineman who can play multiple positions. Josh Atkins returns as the anchor on the left side while Max Ideanachor and Kyle Scott lock down the right side.
DEFENSE: The Middle Leads the Way
The defense for the Sun Devils has the ability to make dynamic plays and it begins with the linebackers in the middle.
Arizona State has a duo capable of making 100 tackles each in Keyshaun Elliott and Jordan Crook. They are both All-Conference caliber linebackers. Martell Hughes provides depth as well.
While the linebackers are strong, the secondary is up there as well. Myles Roswer and Xavion Alford make up one of the top duos in the nation. Alford was a First Team All-Big 12 selection after two interceptions and close to 100 tackles. The Sun Devils also return two starting corners in Javan Robinson and Keith Abney II.
The front must improve and that is possible. Clayton Smith led the team in sacks last season and will return. Prince Dorbah struggled with injuries last year while CJ Fite takes over in the middle.
